Another #Sydney great.
Whilst we were living in Sydney for a year and a half, we saw so much.
And the pinnacle of Sydney has to be its gorgeous harbour.
We got many photos of the iconic Sydney Opera House but this shot of me with no one else in it, is one of my favourites.
One of my #traveltips for getting photos with noone else in them, is always go on a weekday, early or late (if you can) and once there if you hang out long enough, there's always a lull and you can grab a quick moment where there's not many people around.
No photo editing required.
There's always a way 😎

Yes, that is a lonely couch dumped out on the rocks.

Alone, left out in the middle of nowhere and surrounded by tumultuous waves - that perfectly sums up how Sydney ended for us.

I haven't posted in ages. I took time off from IG & other social media as it became overwhelming to absorb that world, when there was so much going on behind the screen in reality.

We were still living in Sydney when the Covid pandemic hit. We'd built up months of housesit bookings in advance in amazing locations like Bondi & Maroubra and I had a job at one of the universities, as well as my freelance work.
In March 2020, we had just moved into a beautiful housesit in Neutral Bay with a view of the city and had plans after completing the next 3 months of booked housesits, to fly to the UK to see my Nan and attend my partner's best friend's wedding.

If it was ever possible to see your life rapidly unravelling whilst frozen in shock, unable to control it - this was the closest you'd get to that.

In the space of 48 hours, covid19 was announced as a global pandemic, the entire world shut down its borders, my job had gone, & the people we were housesitting for, had to return early due to border closures.
All of our booked house-sits one by one, trickled in, cancelling their trips and subsequently cancelling the house-sit.

Suddenly we had nowhere to live in a very expensive city.
Full-time housesitting is the way we've been sourcing our accommodation for the last few years. So we had no accommodation back up and we couldn't travel anywhere to go stay with anyone, as travel & movement had completely stopped....

This is the view from Sydney Park, one of the cities popular parks, in the inner west.
The inner west falls right under Sydney's flight path, so at sunset, you could sit on the hilltop and watch all the planes take off and land. 🛫🛬

In fact if you lived in the inner west, you would hear planes all the time - from 6am until 11pm - it was pretty noisy. ✈🚀

Since the pandemic halted all travel, the skies here have been so quiet.
This photo was taken pre-pandemic, back when we would all talk about how noisy it was being under the flight path and how we wished it was more peaceful.
Who knew we'd get the quiet we never actually wanted. 😑

🌏 I miss travel 🌏

This is a sunset skyline shot of Bangkok, a view from the Quartier Water Garden. Its not a very sharp or high quality photo, but those gorgeous sunset colours are all natural.
It's difficult to look at photos like this and think that I might not be able to see cities like Bangkok, for a really long time.
Bangkok is so colourful, rich in culture, diverse, loud and unapologetically in your face. But I love it. I've been there so many times, I've even done several house sits there.
Travel seems like it's been ripped away. For those of us who do it full-time, it's such a sad, empty feeling not knowing when we can explore the world freely again.
I'm well aware that the pandemic has caused so much more misery and loss than just the loss of travel. And I'm eternally empathetic to all of us, who have suffered loss.
Lets all remember as we navigate this pandemic, we all feel like we've lost something. Even if it's a bit of our freedom.
The only way is up, I hope.

My book-reading face at the awesome Ampersand Cafe & Bookstore.📚
This was taken back last year when we could all happily hang out in shops & cafes.....☕ Not long now until cafes & restaurants are open in NSW in Australia though.
It's a soft restriction lift, just 50 people permitted and no standing or congregating in bars or in large areas. I think it'll be hard to police but worth a try🤷🏼‍♀️
I'll be back in Ampersand Cafe whenever I can
@ampersandcafe is such a unique place, it's a characterful bookstore over multiple floors (3 floors I think) with a fantastic array of books. You can also get your caffeine hit here and hang out and read books in peace (there are always other customers around but it's a relatively peaceful atmosphere).
They have the bookish library-style indoor area and an outdoor laneway cafe experience.
Not only can you drink all the coffee and eat all the cake, you can buy any of the books here too, so it's a real treasure trove of a place. 📚📚
It's on Oxford St in the suburb of Paddington and it's a must-visit gem of Sydney city.💜

Catching sunsets on The Bay Run in Sydney. 🌅🌅
The Bay Run is a 7km walk, run or cycle track around Sydney's Inner West bays.
The circuit goes around Iron Cove and passes through the suburbs of Leichhardt, Rozelle, Lilyfield, Five Dock and Drummoyne.

At least if you live in this part of Sydney's west, you get to still see the water this way. I hate being land locked. I've lived out further west in Syd than this, but it was too inland for me.
And there's no filter on this sunset shot!! Yep. #nofilterneeded
The colours are for real, you can really get some amazing sunsets over the water in Sydney.
