So, let’s get into it. Here are 15 of the best things to do on the Gold Coast in this incredible slice of paradise.
1. Gold Coast Theme Parks: DreamWorld, Warner Bros. Movie World, Seaworld, Wet ‘N’ Wild World and WhiteWater World

One of the top things to do on the Gold Coast is to hit the awesome theme parks.
The Gold Coast’s theme parks are legendary, and there’s something for every thrill level and age group. They’re not just for kids; there are heaps of activities for adults, too.
Dreamworld
Dreamworld is the ultimate all-rounder, with high-speed rides like the Tower of Terror II, the Giant Drop, and the Steel Taipan, plus family-friendly fun at ABC Kids World.
It’s also home to the Tiger Island Wildlife Sanctuary, where you can watch majestic tigers up close. It’s Australia’s biggest theme park, so expect lots of fun things to do here.
Warner Bros. Movie World
Warner Bros. Movie World is where thrill-seekers and film fans unite. The DC Rivals HyperCoaster is the star of the show—it’s not just the tallest but also the fastest and longest coaster in the Southern Hemisphere. Think huge drops, sharp twists, and lots of screaming.
If that’s not enough adrenaline, the Superman Escape rollercoaster launches you at crazy speeds with some cool immersive effects.
For a more laid-back vibe, the daily character parade is super fun, especially if you’re with kids (or just a fan of Batman, Wonder Woman, or the Looney Tunes crew). It’s like stepping into a real-life movie set!
Sea World
Sea World is where marine life meets adventure. If you love marine attractions, you might also enjoy All of the FREE Things to Do in Sydney (And How to Get There) for more Aussie nature experiences.
You can check out Polar Bear Shores to see polar bears up close or wander through the glowing Sea Jellies Illuminated exhibit. Ray Reef is another highlight, where you can hand-feed rays—super interactive and fun!
If you want thrills, the Storm Coaster will have your heart racing with its steep drops and water splashes. And if you’re into stunts, the Thunder Lake Stunt Show is packed with crazy tricks from BMX riders and water skiers.
Have little ones in tow? Nickelodeon Land is great. It offers kid-friendly rides and character meet-and-greets with favourites like SpongeBob.
SeaWorld is definitely one of the must-do things to do on the Gold Coast.
Wet ’n’ Wild
Wet ‘n’ Wild is perfect for water enthusiasts, with adrenaline-pumping slides like the Tornado and Kamikaze or the more relaxed Calypso Beach.
Meanwhile, WhiteWater World keeps things fresh with unique attractions like the Cave of Waves and the Triple Vortex.
Each theme park has its own vibe, making it easy to plan a day (or four) of nonstop excitement!

2. Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

For the best things to do on the Gold Coast, try lorikeet feeding at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.
Visiting Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most unforgettable things to do on the Gold Coast, with a perfect blend of wildlife encounters and outdoor adventure.
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is one of those ultimate places to experience Australia’s incredible wildlife up close. This iconic Gold Coast attraction is home to kangaroos, koalas, crocodiles, and hundreds of native bird species.
You can hand-feed friendly kangaroos or cuddle a koala for that classic Aussie photo. The free-flying lorikeet feeding is a must-do—watch as colourful birds swoop down to eat right from your hands. If you love nature attractions like this, you may also enjoy the Complete Destination Guide and Things to Do in Mount Maunganui and Tauranga, New Zealand.
I loved the lorikeet feeding, it’s a canopy of rainbow squawk! Trust me, you have to see it to believe it!
If you love adventure, the Lost Valley takes you back in time with lush rainforest landscapes, lemurs, red pandas, and exotic reptiles.
If you have kids, they will love the Wild Island playground, and if you love thrill-seeking, you can tackle the TreeTop Challenge, an aerial ropes course weaving through the sanctuary.
You can explore at your own pace or join a guided tour; either way, visiting Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is an unforgettable way to connect with nature.

3. SkyPoint Climb and SkyPoint Observation Deck

For the best view of the Gold Coast, climb the Skypoint tower.
If you’re after breathtaking views of the Gold Coast, the SkyPoint Observation Deck and SkyPoint Climb are one of the must-do activities.
Perched 230 metres above sea level on the 77th floor of the Q1 building, the observation deck offers 360-degree views of Surfers Paradise, the hinterland, Brisbane, and even Byron Bay on a clear day.
The SkyPoint Observation Deck is the only beachside observation deck in Australia, making it one of the must-do activities on the Gold Coast. If you enjoy high viewpoints and breathtaking skyline views, check out 50 Things to Do in Wellington for Free for another city with epic lookouts.
The best part? You’ll be at the top in just 38 seconds, thanks to Australia’s fastest elevator, featuring all-immersive screens and a voiceover.
Once you’re up there, Skypoint Bistro & Bar stay open until 9 pm, so you can even dine in the sky or have a sunset cocktail.
If you want a bit more adventure, the SkyPoint Climb is one of the best ways to experience the Gold Coast.
This outdoor experience takes you 270 metres above sea level to the very top of the Q1 Tower. You’ll be strapped into a harness and guided along the outside of the tower, with epic panoramic views the whole way up.
From up here, you can take in the cityscape, the golden beaches, the lush hinterland, and the endless blue of the Pacific Ocean. You can do a day, twilight or night climb and Climb & Dine packages are available too.
The SkyPoint Climb and Observation Deck is one of the best exciting things to do on the Gold Coast, offering unbeatable 360-degree views and an immersive experience all in one spot.
👉 Book tickets for the SkyPoint Climb and Observation Deck here.
4. Surfers Paradise Beach

Surfers Paradise Beach is still one of the most iconic things to do on the Gold Coast.
Not everyone would agree, but you haven’t visited the Gold Coast until you’ve visited Surfers Paradise Beach.
This iconic stretch of golden sand is perfect for swimming, surfing, or simply soaking up the sun (just remember to be sun safe). To protect yourself from the sun, you can use one of the sunscreens I personally use while travelling, which I’ve mentioned in my post, The Ultimate Guide to the Best Travel Beauty Products.
Lifeguards patrol the beach daily, which makes it a safe spot for families. Or if you’re a paddler rather than a swimmer.
As for surfing, beginners can join a surf lesson right on the beach, while experienced surfers should get out early to catch the best waves.
Beyond the sand, the Esplanade offers plenty of cafes, restaurants, and shops to explore. However, food and drink are plentiful around the beachside area if you don’t want to leave the surf.
The beach is also home to the popular Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets, where you can browse unique souvenirs, handmade goods, and local foodie treats.
It’s worth knowing that the Surfers Paradise area isn’t popular with all visitors, because it is always busy, noisy and very touristy with inflated prices to reflect this.
However, it is an iconic part of the Gold Coast area, and with its lively atmosphere and stunning views, Surfers Paradise Beach is still one of the most popular things to do on the Gold Coast.
5. Whale Watching Tour

Whale watching – one of the best nature activities on the Gold Coast.
Whale watching is a must-do activity on the Gold Coast, especially during the migration season from June to October. The ‘Humpback Highway’ stretches along Australia’s east coast, where Humpback Whales journey from their feeding grounds in Antarctica to breed in warmer Australian waters.
HOT TIP: Although the season runs from May/June to October/November, the best time to see the whales is in August, which is peak migration time. 🐋
On a whale-watching trip, you’ll see majestic humpback whales breaching, tail-slapping, and cruising through the ocean on their journey.
I love exploring nature when I travel and I remember my first whale-watching trip which was in Hervey Bay. Seeing the humpback whales and their calves come right up to the boat is so awesome. They truly are gentle giants, and I love that they came that close to us.
Although it was a whale watching tour on the Gold Coast where I got to see my first whale breach. That was mind-blowing! And it makes you realise just how huge these beautiful cetaceans are.
Several tour companies run boat tours departing from Surfers Paradise and Main Beach, with experienced guides who’ll tell you everything you want to know about these incredible creatures.
Many boats are equipped with spacious viewing decks and hydrophones, letting you listen to the whales’ beautiful songs. Keep an eye out for dolphins or sea turtles too.
No wonder whale watching is one of the best activities on the Gold Coast—it’s an unforgettable way to experience nature at its best.
10/10 would recommend 🙂

6. Jet Boating
If you’re looking for an adrenaline rush, jet boating is where it’s at. Imagine flying across the water at crazy speeds, pulling off sharp turns and 360 spins, all while getting a little (or a lot) soaked. It’s pure fun and not for the faint-hearted!
TOP TIP: Remember to take a waterproof camera!
After all the adrenaline antics, the Jet Boat will cruise you through the Gold Coast’s Broadwater, passing by waterfront mansions and mangroves, with a few surprise stops for fun commentary.
It’s exciting, a bit chaotic, and honestly one of the best things to do on the Gold Coast if you’re up for a wild ride that’ll leave you happy all day.
👉 Book your Jet Boating experience here.
7. Springbrook National Park: Natural Bridge and Waterfalls

Springbrook National Park Photo by Sebastian Hans on Unsplash
If you’re craving a break from the beaches, a trip to Springbrook National Park is just what you need.
The Natural Bridge is the star attraction here—a stunning rock formation shaped by a waterfall over millions of years. You can walk through the rainforest to see it up close, and if you visit at night, the cave lights up with thousands of glow worms. It’s like stepping into a fairy tale.
The park is also full of incredible waterfalls like Twin Falls and Purling Brook Falls, each surrounded by lush greenery and peaceful walking tracks.
Snap photos, enjoy the cool mist from the falls, or just soak up the tranquillity, whatever you do, exploring Springbrook is one of the best things to do on the Gold Coast when you want to reconnect with nature.
👉 Book a tour of Springbrook National Park here.
8. Kayaking Tour
If you’re after something a little different, kayaking is one of the best activities to do on the Gold Coast to slow down and soak up the scenery.
A kayaking tour is a peaceful way to explore the Gold Coast from the water, as you paddle through crystal-clear waters, past secluded beaches, and even spot some local wildlife along the way.
Depending on the tour, you might explore places like Wave Break Island by the seaway or South Stradbroke Island. Look out for dolphins, turtles, and colourful fish—it’s like gliding through a nature documentary.
Most tours are beginner-friendly, with experienced guides who’ll share fun facts about the area and the wildlife as you go. It’s active but relaxing, and the views are incredible.
9. Aboriginal Cultural Tours – Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre at Burleigh Heads
The Aboriginal Cultural Tours at Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre are a must-do for something truly unique.
Led by local Indigenous guides, these tours take you on a journey through the Dreamtime stories and traditions of the Yugambeh people, the custodians of the Gold Coast region.
You’ll walk along stunning coastal paths at Burleigh Headland (Jellurgal) while learning about the area’s rich history and deep cultural significance.
The cultural centre itself houses traditional indigenous art, tools, and storytelling, offering a glimpse into one of the world’s oldest living cultures. It’s a chance to connect with the land and hear stories you won’t find anywhere else.
For anyone wanting to explore beyond the beaches, this is one of the most meaningful things to do on the Gold Coast.
10. Burleigh Heads Beach

Head to Burleigh Heads Beach for one of the best chill things to do on the Gold Coast.
Burleigh Heads Beach is where the locals go, and it’s easy to see why. I’ve lived in Burleigh and I can guarantee, you will love it here, it’s such a gorgeous, picturesque beach with so much going on nearby.
The southern end is perfect for surfers chasing the iconic point break, while the northern end has much gentler waves for swimmers. There are grassy parklands behind the beach with plenty of shady spots and a relaxed, family-friendly vibe.
The point break at Burleigh Heads is known for being one the best surf spots on Australia’s east coast, so sitting on Burleigh Hill is a great place to chill out and watch the surfers.
Nearby James Street is packed with trendy cafes, boutique fashion, and bars so you can shoot over there to grab a gelato or a beer and go watch the sunset from Burleigh Hill. This is one of my favourite things to do in Burleigh.
Nearby is the walking track that loops through Burleigh Head National Park. The base track is a short, scenic trail through rainforest and panoramic views of the coastline, bringing you out at Tallebudgera Creek.
If you love surfing, sunbaking, or just appreciate a laid-back vibe, visiting Burleigh Heads Beach is easily one of the best things to do on the Gold Coast.
As well as one of the FREE things to do on the Gold Coast.
11. Surfers Paradise Sightseeing River Cruise
A sightseeing river cruise is a laid-back way to see a different side of Surfers Paradise. Glide along the calm waters of the Nerang River while soaking in views of luxury waterfront homes, iconic city skylines, and hidden mangroves.
Some cruises include commentary, so you can pick up interesting facts about the area as you go.
Sunset cruises are especially stunning, with golden hues lighting up the water. If you’re looking for a chilled-out way to explore, a river cruise is definitely one of the most relaxing things to do on the Gold Coast.
👉 Book a Sightseeing River Cruise here.
12. Paddle Board at Tallebudgera Creek

Paddleboarding at Tallebudgera Creek, one of those activities to do on the Gold Coast that lets you unwind.
Paddleboarding at Tallebudgera Creek is the perfect way to spend a relaxing morning with a little adventure.
Known by locals as ‘Talle Creek’, this waterway has calm, crystal-clear waters that are ideal for SUP beginners. So even if you’ve never stepped on a paddleboard before, you’ll be just fine here.
The stretch of beach in front of the Gold Coast Recreation Precinct is patrolled, making it a safe and welcoming spot for beginner paddlers to get started. More experienced paddlers can explore further upstream, gliding past lush mangroves and spotting fish in the clear shallows.
If you feel like coffee and cookies might elevate your SUP game, then Custard Canteen Cafe or Neptune Kiosk are just a few steps away. Between them, they do banging doughnuts and custard tarts!
Tallebudgera Creek is surrounded by stunning scenery, with Burleigh Head National Park on one side and sandy beaches on the other.
It’s one of those activities to do on the Gold Coast that lets you unwind while soaking in the natural beauty of the area.
13. Tamborine Mountain National Park and Treetop Challenge

Tamborine Mountain Photo by Noah Pienaar on Unsplash
Tamborine Mountain National Park is a gem just a short drive from the Gold Coast in the Scenic Rim region, offering lush rainforests, stunning waterfalls, and peaceful trails.
A must-see is the Curtis Falls track, a gentle 1.1 km return walk through the dense rainforest where you’ll spot towering eucalypts and vibrant ferns. The trail leads to the serene Curtis Falls, where water cascades over basalt columns into a tranquil pool below—a perfect spot for photos.
If you’re feeling adventurous, try the Treetop Challenge. It’s Australia’s largest zipline and high ropes course, weaving through the treetops with over 100 challenges.
TOP TIP: As there’s no direct public transport to Tamborine Mountain, a guided tour is the best way to visit if you’re coming from the Gold Coast or Brisbane.
Exploring Tamborine Mountain is one of the most enriching activities to do on the Gold Coast, offering both nature and adventure in one beautiful setting.
👉 Book transport and a guided tour of Tamborine Mountain here.
14. Jet Ski Safari
Jet Ski Safaris are an exciting way to explore the Gold Coast’s waterways with a mix of speed and adventure. Book any guided tour and they’ll take you weaving through mangroves, gliding across the Broadwater, and zipping past luxury waterfront homes.
It’s not just about the adrenaline—along the way, you might spot dolphins, sea turtles, and maybe even a dugong if you’re really lucky.
Jet ski safari tours range from quick bursts of fun to longer adventures that stop at hidden islands for a swim.
It’s ok if you’re a total beginner, the guide will make sure you’re comfortable and if you’re already a jet ski pro, you’ll love the freedom.
For thrill-seeking activities, I recommend it 10/10. It’s easily one of the most exhilarating things to do on the Gold Coast!
15. Take Surfing Lessons

Photo by City of Gold Coast on Unsplash
Learning to surf on the Gold Coast is one of those “when in Rome” experiences.
Most surfing lessons start right on the sand, where your instructor will show you the basics like how to read the waves, how to paddle, and how to pop up. Then it’s straight into the water, usually in a spot with gentle waves so beginners don’t feel like they’re in a wipeout competition.
Honestly, even if you spend more time falling than standing, it’s all part of the fun. There’s something about the salt water, the vibe of the beach, and the encouragement from your instructor that makes the whole thing so worthwhile.
Surfing lessons are one of the most memorable things to do on the Gold Coast. You’ll leave salty, tired, and hopefully, smiling.
